Satire | DAWN, n. The time when men of reason go to bed. Certain old men prefer to rise at about that time, taking a cold bath and a long walk with an empty stomach, and otherwise mortifying the flesh. They then point with pride to these practices as the cause of their sturdy health and ripe years; the truth being that they are hearty and old, not because of their habits, but in spite of them. The reason we find only robust persons doing this thing is that it has killed all the others who have tried it. Source: Devil's Dictionary. |

Nautical dawn is defined as that time at which there is just enough sunlight for objects to be distiguishable.
Astronomical dawn is the time at which the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon in the morning. Astronomical dawn is that point in time at which the sun starts lightening the sky. Prior to this time, the sky is completely dark
Dawn should not be confused with sunrise, which is the moment when the leading edge of the Sun itself appears above the horizon.
See also dusk.
In Western tradition it is believed that evil spirits, demons, and even Satan are obliged to disappear at dawn, for being they creatures of Darkness hate light, especially that of the Sun. Pre-Christian Celts also shared this belief.

Dawn Summers is a fictional character in the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer played by Michelle Trachtenberg.Warning: Wikipedia contains spoilers.
Dawn is the younger sister of the title character Buffy Summers. She first appeared in the series' fifth-season episode Buffy vs. Dracula, and would continue to appear as a regular cast member throughout the following seasons. Her introduction in the series came as something of a surprise, since prior seasons showed no indication that Buffy had a younger sister. During the fifth season's story arc, it was revealed that Dawn was in fact a 'key'; that her true nature was a mystical energy that possessed the capability to 'unlock the doors between dimensions.' Dawn's identity had been concealed, and her human form entrusted to Buffy, by a group of monks who intended to hide the 'key' from the evil goddess, Glory.
Dawn, and those around her, were unaware of her true nature for quite some time. She had been forged into human form with a complete recollection of her false life as Buffy's sister, and those surrounding Dawn had also been imbued with artificial memories, making Dawn's eventual discovery of the facts about her existence difficult to come to terms with, and causing a crisis of identity.
