Alpena is a town located in Boone County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 371.

Geography


Alpena is located at 36°17'37" North, 93°17'46" West (36.293713, -93.296233)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 371 people, 146 households, and 95 families residing in the town. The population density is 105.3/km² (272.9/mi²). There are 170 housing units at an average density of 48.3/km² (125.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.50% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 2.16% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 2.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 146 households out of which 35.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.9% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% are non-families. 31.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.21. In the town the population is spread out with 31.0% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 83.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.6 males. The median income for a household in the town is $23,906, and the median income for a family is $28,333. Males have a median income of $29,000 versus $17,125 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,429. 13.3% of the population and 7.3% of families are below the poverty line. There are 4,874 households out of which 26.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.1% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.2% are non-families. 35.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 2.93. In the city the population is spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 19.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 88.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.4 males.
